China displayed its advanced strategic strike armaments in a grand military parade in Beijing on Wednesday marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

The highly-anticipated armaments displayed by the four formations of the strategic strike group included cruise missiles, hypersonic missiles, and two nuclear missiles formations.

In the cruise missiles formation, China unveiled its ChangJian-20A, YingJi-18C, and ChangJian-1000 cruise missiles, showcasing its long-range precise strike and multi-domain deterrence capabilities.

This was the first time that cruise missiles of the Navy, Air Force and Rocket Force units of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) had come together in a joint formation on parade.

Next came the hypersonic missiles formation, which demonstrated the all-weather combat capabilities of the YingJi-21, DongFeng-17, and DongFeng-26D missiles, which excel at breaking through defenses and can hit targets with high precision.

In the first formation of nuclear missiles, China unveiled its land-, sea-, and air-based strategic forces as a nuclear triad for the first time.

The triad included the JingLei-1 air-based long-range missile, the JuLang-3 submarine-launched intercontinental missile, the DongFeng-61 land-based intercontinental missile, and a new type DongFeng-31 land-based intercontinental missile.

The weapons are deemed as China's powerful strategic "ace" to safeguard the country's sovereignty and the nation's dignity.

The second formation of nuclear missiles showcased China's liquid-fueled intercontinental strategic nuclear missile, the DongFeng-5C, which has a global strike range.

With these strategic weapons, China has forged a shield for peace.

All the armaments displayed during the parade are domestically made and in active service.

Wednesday's parade consisted of two parts -- a military review by President Xi Jinping and a march-past of troops in Tian'anmen Square.

The strategic strike formations were one of the seven armament formation groups that took part in the march-past segment. The others were the land combat group, the maritime combat group, the air defense and anti-missile operations group, the information warfare group, the unmanned combat group, and the logistics and equipment support group.

A Mainland spokesman on Thursday lashed out at Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te's recent pro-Japanese colonialism remarks, describing Lai's obsequious flattery of Japan and his nostalgia for Japan's colonial rule over Taiwan as despicable.

Senior Colonel Jiang Bin, the spokesman, made the statement at a press conference in Beijing in response to a media inquiry about Lai's recent remarks on Japan's colonial rule over Taiwan, which ran 50 years from 1895 to 1945.

Lai recently advocated the notorious notion of the so-called "Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere," a concept advanced by militarist Japan during World War II to whitewash and justify its aggression and colonial crimes across Asia. Lai claimed that Japan's colonial rule over Taiwan was intended to promote the "Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere," sparking discontent on the Taiwan island.

"Lai Ching-te's remarks, characterized by the absence of conscience and moral baseline, are truly shocking. His obsequious flattery of Japan, which once colonized Taiwan, and his nostalgia for Japan's colonial rule over Taiwan are both despicable," Jiang said.

"As is widely known, Japanese militarists, under the guise of 'Co-Prosperity', committed heinous crimes such as killing, arson attacks, looting and the enslavement of people during the colonial rule. Lai Ching-te ignores the Japanese aggressors' heinous crimes of slaughtering hundreds of thousands of Taiwan compatriots and betrays history to justify colonialism. Such a scum to the Chinese nation will inevitably be nailed to the pillar of shame," he said.
