UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher issued a statement on Sunday voicing deep concern over Israel's latest mandatory evacuation order for Palestinians in Gaza City.
Fletcher emphasized that this order comes at a time when famine has already been confirmed in Gaza for two weeks, and as the area continues to endure large-scale military operations.
He warned that the window to prevent famine from spreading to central Deir al-Balah and southern Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip is rapidly closing, with the critical period lasting only until the end of September.
The UN humanitarian chief called for the immediate and unhindered access of humanitarian aid into Gaza and urged for a ceasefire to be reached as soon as possible.
