The consumer price index, a broad measure of the cost of goods and services across the U.S. economy, rose 2.9 percent year on year without seasonal adjustment in August, the country's Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Thursday.
The index rose by 0.4 percent compared to the previous month.
The core index for all items excluding food and energy whose prices may fluctuate seriously rose by 0.3 percent from July, a year-on-year increase of 3.1 percent without seasonal adjustment, the report said.
