A pair of giant panda twins at Shanghai Wild Animal Park celebrated their one-month birthday on Monday, showing healthy development under the care of their mother, Qian Jin, and a dedicated breeding team.
The male and female cubs, weighing 160 grams and 200 grams at birth respectively, have now each reached approximately 1,300 grams. Their distinctive black-and-white fur has become clearly defined, with dark patches visible around their eyes and ears.
According to park staff, the cubs remain in a continuous cycle of feeding and sleeping, which is typical for the newborns.
"Giant panda cubs generally begin practicing crawling around three months after birth. Their eyes remain closed for now and will start opening around 40 days and be fully open by about 50 days," said Sun Wenxiao, a panda keeper.
Despite being a first-time mother, Qian Jin has adapted skillfully to her new role. A professional care team has been providing round-the-clock support, assisting with feeding, health monitoring, and growth tracking.
"We meticulously handle everything from feeding to recording their physical development data. Meanwhile, Qian Jin has fully embraced motherhood. She is now proficient in nursing, helping the cubs defecate, and soothing them to sleep," Sun said.
The mother and cubs currently reside in a specialized breeding area. Park authorities have indicated that the pandas will be introduced to the public at an appropriate time based on recommendations from animal care experts.
