Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel has voiced strong backing for Chinese President Xi Jinping's Global Governance Initiative (GGI), calling it a trustworthy framework for improving global order.
Xi proposed the Global Governance Initiative on September 1 while chairing the "Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Plus" Meeting in Tianjin, north China. The event marked the largest summit in the SCO's 24-year history, attended by leaders from over 20 countries and 10 international organizations.
The GGI is Xi's fourth major international initiative, following the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative. It advocates for a more just and equitable global governance model, grounded in five core principles: sovereign equality, adherence to international law, multilateralism, people-centered development, and practical action.
Responding to Xi's proposal, Diaz-Canel gave high praise and immediate support.
"After President Xi proposed the Global Governance Initiative at the SCO summit held in Tianjin, China, Cuba was among the first to express public support. I believe the Global Governance Initiative significantly complements and enhances other proposals aimed at building a community with a shared future for humanity, playing a vital role in this endeavor. Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, China's progress in building socialism with Chinese characteristics has demonstrated that development, inclusive growth, and shared prosperity for all are indeed feasible," said Diaz-Canel.
"China is committed to using science, technology and innovation to solve the real-life challenges its people face by consistently putting people first across economic, social, educational, cultural, spiritual and emotional spheres. China maintains a development vision centered on peace, cooperation, friendship, and solidarity. Given its remarkable achievements and the strong international credibility it has built, China's Global Governance Initiative stands out as fair and sincere, and it is worthy of global trust," said the Cuban president.
