China Coast Guard (CCG) has started a 50-day mission to conduct routine patrols in the territorial waters off Huangyan Dao and the surrounding areas, reinforcing sovereignty and ecological protection following the establishment of the Huangyan Dao National Nature Reserve.

Despite challenging sea conditions worsened by consecutive typhoons since late September, the China Coast Guard fleet has been advancing through rolling waves to carry out patrols. Law enforcers of the CCG fleet have maintained vigilant watch over meteorological data, anticipating sudden shifts in weather and wave patterns to adjust navigation tactics and ensure the safety of their vessels.

The State Council, China's cabinet, approved the establishment of the Huangyan Dao National Nature Reserve on Sept 10 this year to protect its marine ecological environment.

The establishment of the nature reserve has added new responsibilities and challenges to the duties of the CCG.

"With the establishment of the Huangyan Dao National Nature Reserve, we should safeguard not only the sovereignty of Huangyan Dao, but also its ecological security. Our mission has become more challenging with greater responsibility. We will follow higher standards and stricter requirements to exercise management of the waters around Huangyan Dao," said Li Yongjian, an officer of Chinese Coast Guard.

On the occasion of the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the officers have expressed their patriotic sentiments from the distant waters of the South China Sea.

"What we see most every day is this vast, boundless sea. As the sun rises, our strongest hope is for our motherland to grow stronger and more prosperous," said Zhou Jinjian, another CCG officer.

A flag-raising ceremony was held on deck of the CCG vessel ahead of the National Day, which falls on Oct 1, with all crew members saluting the national flag and sending their best wishes to the motherland.

The Heritage Guardian, a China Media Group (CMG) documentary featuring President Xi Jinping's deep concern for the inheritance and development of culture, began airing along with other two documentaries made by the group on mainstream media outlets in Laos on Monday.

Thongloun Sisoulith, general secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee and president of Laos, sent a congratulatory letter on the documentaries' airing .

The documentaries reflect the importance that Xi places on cultural heritage protection, as well as Xi's far-sighted vision in governance and profound patriotism, said Thongloun in the letter, noting that the documentaries provide examples for Laos to carry forward its unique national culture while pursuing economic and social development.

CMG and the publicity department of the LPRP Central Committee held a broadcast launch event in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, on Tuesday.

This year marks the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Laos, and is the China-Laos Friendship Year.
