Lao top leader Thongloun interacts with robots during China visit

Visiting Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith experienced China's latest technologies such as humanoid robotics and artificial intelligence during a visit to local tech companies in east China's Hangzhou City on Tuesday.

During the visit, a humanoid robot greeted Thongloun with a Chinese-kung fu-style somersault, while robot dogs performed stairs climbing as the Lao leader showed an interest to interact with the robotics.

Thongloun also operated a robot dog himself, using a controller to make it perform an "ice skater" move.

"It looks like an ice skater," said Thongloun.

Showing a keen interest in China's artificial intelligence technologies, Thongloun asked about specific application scenarios during his visit to another tech company.

Thongloun arrived in Hangzhou on Tuesday as the first leg of his five-day state visit to China.

At the invitation of General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chinese President Xi Jinping, Thongloun will pay a state visit to China from Tuesday to Saturday.

The Heritage Guardian, a China Media Group (CMG) documentary featuring President Xi Jinping's deep concern for the inheritance and development of culture, began airing along with other two documentaries made by the group on mainstream media outlets in Laos on Monday.

Thongloun Sisoulith, general secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee and president of Laos, sent a congratulatory letter on the documentaries' airing .

The documentaries reflect the importance that Xi places on cultural heritage protection, as well as Xi's far-sighted vision in governance and profound patriotism, said Thongloun in the letter, noting that the documentaries provide examples for Laos to carry forward its unique national culture while pursuing economic and social development.

CMG and the publicity department of the LPRP Central Committee held a broadcast launch event in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, on Tuesday.

This year marks the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Laos, and is the China-Laos Friendship Year.
