The first segment of the steel tower for Wanlong Grand Bridge in south China, the world's largest-span self-anchored suspension bridge, was successfully erected Friday, marking the bridge's construction officially entering the steel tower structure installation phase.

The milestone work also validated the feasibility of key technologies in the project, including construction of steel-concrete composite structures and the hoisting of large-tonnage components.

Located in Nansha District in Guangzhou, capital city of south China's Guangdong Province, the bridge has a length of 5,146 meters, with a main bridge of 1,150 meters and a main span of 608 meters.

Upon completion, it will connect the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Channel, the Nansha-Zhongshan Expressway, and the Longxue Island port area, forming a "golden logistics corridor" for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
