China firmly supports Ghana in pursuing a modernization path that suits its national conditions, and is willing to work with Ghana to upgrade cooperation in various fields, making greater contributions to building an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era, he said.

Xi stressed that China has always adhered to the principles of sincerity, real results, affinity, and good faith, and the correct approach to justice and interests in its cooperation with Africa.

He expressed China's readiness to enhance political mutual trust with Ghana and provide mutual support on issues concerning each other's core interests and major concerns.

Xi called on the two sides to jointly implement the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in 2024, explore diversified cooperation models, expand cooperation in various fields, including mining, energy, infrastructure construction, agriculture and fisheries, help Ghana turn its resource advantages into development momentum, achieve effective synergy between resource development and environmental protection and promote high-quality development of bilateral cooperation.

The Chinese president also called on both countries to jointly practice the Global Governance Initiative and promote the building of a more just and equitable global governance system.

Xi said that the two countries have reached a principled consensus on an early harvest arrangement for their economic partnership for shared development. He also expressed hope that Ghana will benefit from China's zero-tariff treatment for 100 percent tariff lines for African countries with which it has diplomatic relations at an early date.

Mahama congratulated China on the successful hosting of the Global Leaders' Meeting on Women, saying that it was of great significance and demonstrated China's leadership in advancing women's development worldwide.

Noting that Ghana's friendly relations with China have a long history, Mahama thanked China for the support provided to his country through mechanisms such as the FOCAC and the Belt and Road Initiative.

He said that Ghana firmly adheres to the one-China policy and is committed to deepening its ties with China. He expressed hope that Ghana will strengthen cooperation with China in trade, digital economy, infrastructure construction, energy, mining and cultural and people-to-people exchanges to elevate bilateral relations to a new level.

The Ghanaian president also emphasized Ghana's firm support for multilateralism and its willingness to strengthen solidarity with like-minded countries, such as China, enhance multilateral coordination, practice the Global Governance Initiative, and safeguard international fairness and justice.

The multilateral system is "under attack" amid global turmoil, President of the 80th UN General Assembly Annalena Baerbock warned in her remarks on Wednesday.

In her briefing on the priorities for the resumed 80th Session of the General Assembly, the UNGA president noted that the current multilateral system does not collapse all in a sudden, but "crumbles piece by piece" in divisions, compromises, and lack of political commitment.

The president called all the UN member states to defend the UN Charter and international law and promote cross-regional cooperation.

She also urged to push forward the work of the UNGA on certain critical issues with a strong majority, rather than an absolute consensus among all member states. Such act is not a failure of multilateralism, but "an affirmation of it," she said.

The foundational principles of the institution should not be eroded by appeasement, she said, calling the member states to show courage, leadership, and responsibility at the UN's "critical make-or-break moment."

"The UN needs you. Your support, your leadership, your principle, stand, your cross-regional cooperation, if we are to preserve and modernize this institution, if we are to make it, rather than break it," she said.
