Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang on Thursday said that China stands ready to work with all parties to advance global green development and promote the development of a clean, beautiful world.

Ding, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the chairperson of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED), made the remarks while addressing the 2025 annual general meeting of the CCICED in Beijing.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), China has been working to improve its ecological environment and has made significant progress in building a beautiful China, Ding said.

He noted that China has also reinforced its leading role in global ecological governance over the past five years.

China will remain steadfast in pursuing green and low-carbon development, and promoting green productivity in accordance with local conditions, the vice premier said.

He also emphasized the importance of upholding multilateralism, enhancing dialogue and exchange, and coordinating environmental protection with economic development.

China is committed to contributing more wisdom and strength to the development of its ecological civilization, and to advancing global sustainable development.

Themed "Advancing the Green Transformation for a Harmonious coexistence between Humans and Nature", the meeting, held from Wednesday to Thursday, attracted about 400 attendees from home and abroad.

The multilateral system is "under attack" amid global turmoil, President of the 80th UN General Assembly Annalena Baerbock warned in her remarks on Wednesday.

In her briefing on the priorities for the resumed 80th Session of the General Assembly, the UNGA president noted that the current multilateral system does not collapse all in a sudden, but "crumbles piece by piece" in divisions, compromises, and lack of political commitment.

The president called all the UN member states to defend the UN Charter and international law and promote cross-regional cooperation.

She also urged to push forward the work of the UNGA on certain critical issues with a strong majority, rather than an absolute consensus among all member states. Such act is not a failure of multilateralism, but "an affirmation of it," she said.

The foundational principles of the institution should not be eroded by appeasement, she said, calling the member states to show courage, leadership, and responsibility at the UN's "critical make-or-break moment."

"The UN needs you. Your support, your leadership, your principle, stand, your cross-regional cooperation, if we are to preserve and modernize this institution, if we are to make it, rather than break it," she said.
