Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao on Tuesday urged the Netherlands to properly resolve issues related to the Netherlands-based chipmaker Nexperia, protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese investors, and foster a fair, transparent and predictable business environment.

Wang made the remarks in a phone conversation with Dutch Minister for Economic Affairs Vincent Karremans at the latter's request.

The Dutch government said on Oct 12 that it had made a "highly exceptional" decision to intervene in Nexperia, a subsidiary of Chinese company Wingtech, citing concerns that it could "pose a risk to Dutch and European economic security."

Wang said that China places great importance on economic and trade cooperation between China and the Netherlands. The measures taken by the Dutch side targeting Nexperia have severely impacted the stability of global industrial and supply chains, he said.

China urges the Dutch side to proceed from the larger picture of safeguarding the security and stability of the global industrial and supply chains, uphold the contract spirit and the principle of market- and rules-based operation, promptly and properly resolve the issues, protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese investors, and foster a fair, transparent and predictable business environment, Wang said.

Karremans said that the Netherlands attaches great importance to bilateral economic and trade relations, and stands ready to keep close communications with the Chinese side and find constructive solutions to the Nexperia issue.
