Participants at the fourth plenary session held by the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in Beijing from Monday to Thursday gave a highly positive assessment of China's major development achievements made during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), which has marked a momentous and extraordinary period in the country's development, according to a communique of the session released on Thursday.
The communique said that participants at the session deliberated over and adopted the Recommendations of the CPC Central Committee for Formulating the 15th Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development.
The Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee presided over the meeting. Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, delivered important addresses, it said.
At the session, the CPC Central Committee fully affirmed the work of the Political Bureau since the third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee.
During the period, the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee adhered to the principle of seeking progress while maintaining stability, coordinated development and security, further comprehensively deepened reform, solidly promoted high-quality development, and maintained national security and social stability. It also strengthened national defense and the building of a modern army, did a good job in handling affairs regarding Hong Kong, Macao and the Taiwan region, and promoted the sustained recovery of the economy, said the communique.
China is now on the verge of accomplishing the major objectives and tasks of the 14th Five-Year Plan, it added.
Faced with a complex international situation and the arduous tasks of domestic reform, development, and stability, the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core has united and led the entire Party and the people of all ethnic groups across the country in rising to the challenges and forging ahead, said the communique.
The Party has withstood the severe impact from the pandemic unseen in centuries, effectively addressed a series of major risks and challenges, and advanced the cause of the Party and the nation to make new and significant achievements, it said.
With China's economic strength, sci-tech prowess and overall national strength reaching new heights, Chinese modernization has taken new and solid steps, and the new journey toward the second centenary goal has made a sound start, according to the communique.
