The past four rounds of trade talks between China and the United States have fully demonstrated that the two sides can resolve their differences on the basis of mutual respect, equal-footed negotiation, Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao said on Friday.
Speaking at a press conference in Beijing, Wang spoke about the recent development on trade ties between the world's two largest economies, while responding to a question on China's measures to further expand opening up and attract foreign investment during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030).
"In recent days, attention has been focused on China-U.S. economic and trade issues. President Xi Jinping has emphasized that dialogue and cooperation are the only correct choice for China and the United States. As a responsible major country, China always opposes decoupling or disruption of industrial and supply chains, and is committed to the stability and security of global supply and industrial chains," the commerce minister said.
"The first four rounds of China-U.S. economic and trade consultations have fully demonstrated that both sides, on the basis of mutual respect and equal consultation, can come up with solutions to address each other's concerns, find the right way to get along, and promote the healthy, steady, and sustainable development of China-U.S. economic and trade relations," he added.
Wang's remarks come as Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, will lead a delegation to Malaysia from October 24 to 27 to hold economic and trade consultations with the U.S. side, the Ministry of Commerce announced Thursday.
The two sides will hold consultations on important issues in China-U.S. economic and trade ties in accordance with the important consensus reached by the heads of state of the two countries during their phone calls earlier this year, according to the ministry.
The upcoming talks in Malaysia follows recent trade consultations between Chinese and U.S. delegations in Madrid in September, Stockholm in July, London in June, and Geneva in May.
