A reception was held on Saturday noon at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing to mark the newly established Commemoration Day of Taiwan's Restoration.

The reception, hosted by the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, followed a morning conference commemorating the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration to China. Attendees included guests from various sectors in Taiwan who participated in the morning's event, alongside representatives from China's Central Government departments.

In 1945, the Chinese people won the great victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. On October 25 of that year, the ceremony to accept Japan's surrender in Taiwan Province of the China war theater of the Allied powers was held in Taipei. From that point on, Taiwan and the Penghu Islands returned to China's sovereign jurisdiction.

The Restoration of Taiwan is crucial and irrefutable evidence of the Chinese government resuming the exercise of sovereignty over Taiwan. It is an important link in the historical fact and legal chain of Taiwan being a part of China, a shared glory for compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, and a common national memory for all Chinese people. The Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) designated October 25 as the Commemoration Day of Taiwan's Restoration at its 18th session on Friday.

Song Tao, head of both the CPC Central Committee's Taiwan Work Office and the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, addressed Saturday's reception. He said the establishment of the Commemoration Day of Taiwan's Restoration fully reflects the will of the people and the will of the Chinese nation.

"The purpose of establishing the Commemoration Day of Taiwan's Restoration in the name of the state is to remember the shared national historical memory, guide compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait to cultivate a correct view of history, of our nation and our country, enhance the spirit of patriotism and national pride, so as to jointly safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and resolutely protect the common homeland of the Chinese nation," said Song.

Attendees from Taiwan said the establishment of the Commemoration Day is most opportune and of great significance. They said the day would inspire all Chinese people, especially those in Taiwan, to deepen their understanding of the one-China principle and strengthen their resolve to oppose Taiwan secession and external interference, thereby consolidating the force for national unity and rejuvenation.

Nicaragua's co-foreign minister Valdrack Jaentschke has warned that militarism must never be allowed to rise again, as Japan's recent moves to lift its arms export ban and revise the pacifist Constitution continue to draw international concern.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the opening of the Tokyo Trials, where Japan's Class-A war criminals from World War II were brought to justice.

In an interview with China Global Television Network (CGTN), Valdrack Jaentschke voiced his concern that today's world order is being undermined by interventionism and other challenges.

"It is necessary for us to remember that after the end of World War II, countries worked hard to build a new international order based on international law. However, regrettably, more than 80 years later, we are seeing that this once explored and attempted order is being challenged by interventionism, a confrontational mindset, and tendencies like 'might makes right.' These are precisely the conditions that gave rise to fascism and militarism in the past, which ultimately led to the tragedy of World War II," he said.

He said the international community has a responsibility to pursue a new international order -- one fundamentally grounded in peace.

"Looking back at the history more than eight decades ago and comparing it with today's reality, it is our responsibility to recognize that the world should, and must, build a new international order that is more just, fairer, rooted in international law, based on a logic of mutual benefit and shared success, and fundamentally grounded in peace," said the minister.

"Today, as we revisit the Tokyo Trials, it is meant to remind the world that such a tragedy must never be repeated -- and that we must do everything in our power to prevent it from happening again. We must stop that dark world -- born from militarism, interventionism, and fascism -- from ever returning," he said.
