Chinese President Xi Jinping inspected south China's Hainan and Guangdong provinces from Wednesday to Sunday, urging more efforts in promoting opening up and high-quality development.

During the five-day inspection tour, Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, attended the commissioning of the Fujian aircraft carrier and the opening ceremony of the 15th National Games.

On Wednesday, Xi attended the commissioning and flag-presenting ceremony of the Fujian, China's first aircraft carrier equipped with electromagnetic catapults, at a naval port in the city of Sanya in Hainan Province.

He boarded the aircraft carrier to inspect the vessel after the ceremony, during which he was briefed on the latest progress made in country's work of developing aircraft carriers.

Xi also learned about the systematic combat capabilities of the aircraft carrier and the electromagnetic catapult system.

Bearing the hull number 18, the aircraft carrier Fujian is one of the country's three carriers currently in service. Named after Fujian Province in east China and launched in June 2022, the vessel was independently designed and built by China.

On Thursday, Xi heard a work report on the building of the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP) in Sanya City.

Noting that building the Hainan FTP is a major policy made by the CPC Central Committee to comprehensively deepen reform and opening up in the new era, Xi urged the local officials to earnestly study and implement the guiding principles of the fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, and adopt high standards for building the Hainan FTP.

The Hainan FTP will officially launch island-wide special customs operations on Dec. 18 this year, which Xi said is a landmark move for China to unwaveringly expand high-standard opening up and promote the development of an open world economy.

On Friday, Xi visited the memorial park dedicated to Ye Jianying (1897-1986), a late Chinese Communist revolutionary leader and former chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, in Meizhou City of Guangdong Province. He laid a flower basket at the statue of Ye, toured an exhibition dedicated to the revolutionary predecessor and visited Ye's former residence.

In Meizhou, Xi also toured a pomelo growing base where he was briefed on Guangdong's efforts to step up support for old revolutionary base areas and advance all-around rural revitalization, among others.

Xi reviewed processed and cultural-creative products derived from the fruit, and had conversations with the farmers and agricultural technicians there.

He pointed out that developing rural specialty industries is fundamental to promoting comprehensive rural revitalization, calling for greater efforts to boost farmers' incomes.

On Saturday, Xi inspected an exhibition displaying Guangdong's achievements in the integrated development of technological and industrial innovation in Guangzhou, the provincial capital.

Following the inspection, Xi heard a work report from the Party committee and government of Guangdong Province, stressing studying, publicizing and implementing the guiding principles of the fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee and comprehensively deepening reform and opening up for high-quality development.

On Sunday afternoon, Xi met with representatives of national model units and individuals in mass sports and competitive sports. He extended congratulations to the honorees, encouraging them to push their limits, strive for new heights, and make new contributions to building China into a sports powerhouse.

He also met with International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Kirsty Coventry and IOC Honorary President for Life Thomas Bach in Guangzhou, who were in China for the opening ceremony of the country's 15th National Games.

In the evening, Xi attended the opening ceremony of the 15th National Games and declared the Games open at the Guangdong Olympic Sports Center. This edition of the National Games marks the first time the country's premier multi-sport event has been jointly hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao.

A breathtaking sea of tulips are now in full bloom in Zhumadian City, central China's Henan Province, painting the landscape with vibrant colors and drawing crowds of visitors seeking springtime beauty.

More than 500 mu (over 33 hectares) of tulips, featuring more than 100 varieties and 56 color palettes, have unfolded at the food of the Chaya Mountain Scenic Area in Suiping County.

Visitors wandered through the vibrant fields, snapping photos and immersing themselves in the joys of spring.

"It's so beautiful here with all these colorful tulips. I've taken lots of photos and videos. Being out in nature during this warm spring weather just makes me feel so happy," said Xiao Li, a visitor.

This year, more than four million tulips have been planted. To extend the boom, gardeners have implemented staggered planting techniques. As a result, the tulip bloom is expected to last until late April.

Beyond the flowers, the scenic area has added sunny lawns, photo spots, and leisure facilities, turning the tulip fields into a perfect destination for both sightseeing and relaxation.
