Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in south China's Guangdong Province on Wednesday announced that its annual passenger throughput has surpassed 80 million for the first time, with that figure including over 16.6 million international travelers.
The airport’s leap in passenger volume stems from continuous optimization of its whole-chain operational system and improved capacity across multiple links.
The Baiyun Airport has witnessed simultaneous growth across all core operational metrics, including flight movements, international services, and cargo transport, supported by robust regional economic momentum.
To manage the high-density daily traffic of over 1,500 flights, the airport has actively leveraged its operations management committee to enhance coordination, strengthening communication and collaboration with air traffic control, airlines, and on-site partners. Through improved data sharing and integrated resource planning, it has achieved a significant leap in both operational efficiency and service capacity.
The airport achieved the feat following a major expansion, which included the launch of its Terminal 3 and its fifth runway on Oct. 30.
As one of China's three major international aviation hubs, Baiyun Airport leverages its strategic location in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to strengthen domestic connectivity and expand international routes.
This year, the airport has successfully facilitated the launch, expansion, or resumption of nearly 40 international passenger routes by both domestic and foreign airlines.
With more international passenger routes launched and resumed this year, the airport has extended its global network to over 100 destinations.
