A Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy vessel provided assistance to a Philippine fisherman in distress in the South China Sea on Thursday, said the Chinese embassy in the Philippines on Friday.

During a routine patrol in the South China Sea on Thursday, the Chinese Navy vessel (Hull 174) spotted a small fishing boat with a man aboard seeking assistance, as he had been stranded at sea for three days after his boat suffered engine failure.

The Chinese Navy immediately dispatched a rescue boat to send drinking water and food to him.

The Chinese side also coordinated with the Philippine Coast Guard for additional support.
