Russia said on Monday that its armed forces had taken control of one settlement in the Donetsk region, while Ukraine reported on the same day that its troops had repelled multiple attacks from Russian forces.
In its latest report, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that during the past 24 hours, its forces also targeted Ukrainian electronic warfare stations, counter-battery radars, and ammunition depots. Russian air defense systems intercepted and destroyed two Ukrainian missiles and 140 fixed-wing drones.
Meanwhile, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on Monday that its troops had engaged in 89 battles with Russian forces as of that afternoon. The Ukrainian military successfully repelled multiple attacks from the Russian military in the direction of Pokrovsk, where Russia has focused its assaults.
Speaking during a meeting with military commanders on Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the military to continue expanding the security buffer zone along the border with Ukraine in 2026 and to completely eliminate Ukrainian forces in the Kupiansk direction.
Putin also noted that Russian forces are conducting military actions in the Donbas, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions in stages, with Ukrainian forces retreating continuously. He expects the Russian military to gain full control of the Donbas region.
On Monday, Putin signed a decree introducing year-round conscription of 261,000 Russian citizens aged 18 to 30 for military service throughout the year 2026. The decree specifies that conscripts will be gathered in two phases: from April 1 to July 15 and from October 1 to December 31, to report to their service locations.
