U.S. stocks close lower

U.S. stocks ended lower on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 94.87 points, or 0.2 percent, to 48,367.06. The S and P 500 sank 9.5 points, or 0.14 percent, to 6,896.24. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 55.27 points, or 0.24 percent, to 23,419.08.

Six of the 11 primary S and P 500 sectors ended in red, with consumer discretionary and financials leading the laggards by losing 0.32 percent and 0.28 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, energy and communication services led the gainers by adding 0.75 percent and 0.33 percent, respectively.

China launched a new pair of satellites, Shijian-29A and Shijian-29B on Tuesday, marking a new mission dedicated to testing advanced technologies for space object detection.

Launched by a Long March-7A rocket at 06:40, the satellites have entered the preset orbit successfully.

The launch marks the 623rd mission by the Long March carrier rocket series.
