U.S. dollar ticks up

The U.S. dollar higher in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, went up 0.21 percent to 98.241 at 3 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro was down to 1.1747 dollars from 1.1767 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound dropped to 1.3466 dollars from 1.3507 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 156.49 Japanese yen, higher than 156.03 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar increased to 0.7917 Swiss francs from 0.7896 Swiss francs, and it increased to 1.3696 Canadian dollars from 1.3684 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar rose to 9.1996 Swedish kronor from 9.1802 Swedish kronor.

Crude futures settle lower

 

Oil prices fell on Tuesday.

The West Texas Intermediate for February delivery lost 13 cents, or 0.22 percent, to settle at 57.95 U.S. dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude for February delivery dropped 2 cents, or 0.03 percent, to settle at 61.92 dollars a barrel on the London ICE Futures Exchange.
