A brand-new dining experience in Beijing, called "Culinary Theater," is gaining popularity, presenting dinners as more than just a meal but an immersive journey through time and space.

In one such restaurant, diners can step into the role of a character from a historical drama, savoring delicacies served in sync with an unfolding narrative amidst pavilions and gardens. The culinary theater experience is redefining dining through dramatic performances and effects.

"I think the ambiance of the entire place is very it's stunning. I really liked the effects when the water came down and the flowers rose fell on the actors, it was beautiful," said Aimeric Malter, a dinner from Germany.

The rise of "Culinary Theater" reflects the evolving desires of modern consumers — they seek emotional connection, cultural interaction, and memorable ceremony. This model transforms literature, drama, music, and digital art into tangible, interactive, and living experiences.

"We bring the worlds from literary works into reality. Allowing young people to step out of the pages of books and TV series and physically enter the atmosphere of those stories is its greatest appeal," said Li Lijun, operations manager of this classical theme experience restaurant.

At another restaurant that weaves together theater, technology, and exquisite cuisine, customers can sit at their table and watch 3D animations come to life before their eyes, only to be surprised by the real dishes that appear, perfectly mirroring what they just saw.

"Beijing is actively encouraging the integrated development of 'dining + culture, tourism, sports, and exhibition,' supporting the introduction of innovative dining concepts in parks, museums, scenic spots, and more. New business formats like 'Culinary Theater' not only showcase Beijing's cultural and technological resources but also align with the direction of urban consumption upgrades and the creation of diverse experiences," said Wang Huijun, a researcher from Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau.

Beijing's "Culinary Theater" is redefining the meaning of a meal through boundless creativity from the elegance of history to the fantasies of the future. It has become not only a destination for fine food but also a new window to experience the city's innovative pulse and cultural vitality, according to a social media commentator.

It will be Lee's first visit to China since taking office in June 2025, and also the first visit to the country by an ROK president since 2019.

It will also marks that the two heads of state have exchanged visits within two months as Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to the ROK from Oct 30 to Nov 1, 2025.
