From shared prosperity to South-South cooperation, international voices expressed their thoughts on China's role and the implications of Chinese President Xi Jinping's 2026 New Year message for the world ahead.
They highlighted that President Xi's New Year message outlines a comprehensive vision for global development, cooperation, and peaceful coexistence.
"When he says China is for the progress and prosperity of the entire world, it actually coincides with his vision, where he says that we need to have a common destiny, a common future, and a win-win situation for all nations to pursue. I think it's a great message that President Xi Jinping has conveyed in his New Year speech. Since we have a very cordial relationship with China, we have a cooperative strategic partnership with China, I think we stand to benefit from his vision," said Talat Shabbir, director of the China-Pakistan Study Center at the Institute of Strategic Studies in Islamabad, Pakistan.
Several experts emphasized that China's initiatives significantly enhance global connectivity, facilitating closer ties between nations and regions and promoting economic integration.
"I think the Initiative of the Belt and Road is a very, very important example of how to promote and how to link the South—South world through roads, through ports, industrial parks, to promote South-South trade, which can create more development, and more job creation, and more economic integration," said Ayman Mosharafa, former Egyptian assistant foreign minister.
"We also see a great deal of common ground, as President Xi said, in having clear plans, clear objectives, and a long-term vision. With China, we cannot improvise or simply see if something is possible or not. A business venture must be feasible. And working together to bring these projects to fruition, I believe this is a challenge that, by 2026, will forge a much deeper alliance than we have ever had before," said Efren Calvo, president of the Mexico Chamber of Commerce in China.
Some experts underscored China's steadfast commitment to the peaceful resolution of global disputes.
"A very important aspect he discussed was China's belief in the peaceful settlement of international disputes. This reflects that China is a natural leader of the Global South. It is thinking about, it is working on prosperity and development in the Global South, and also the peaceful settlement of global disputes," said Haris Bilal Malik, research associate at the China-Pakistan Study Center at the Institute of Strategic Studies in Islamabad, Pakistan.
Alejandro Indacochea, a Peruvian economist, said that President Xi's message offers a clear direction for progress amid today's complex global situation marked by ongoing trade frictions.
"President Xi Jinping mentioned the '15th Five-Year Plan,' and it provides important guidance for China's scientific and technological development. In today's complex world situation, with ongoing trade frictions, President Xi has provided us with a direction for progress, which I believe has significant practical implications," he said.
