Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, held talks with Pakistan's National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in Beijing on Monday.
Zhao said that China and Pakistan are iron-clad friends and all-weather strategic cooperative partners. President Xi Jinping met separately with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif last year, providing new strategic guidance for the development of the bilateral ties, he said.
Noting that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan, Zhao said that China is ready to work with Pakistan to implement the important consensus between the leaders of the two countries and accelerate the building of an even closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future in the new era.
Zhao also said that China highly appreciates Pakistan's long-standing and firm support on issues concerning China's core interests and major concerns.
China will continue to firmly support Pakistan in safeguarding national independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and national dignity, and China will also support Pakistan to maintain unity and stability, and achieve development and prosperity, Zhao said.
China is willing to strengthen the alignment of its 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) with Uraan Pakistan -- Pakistan's national economic transformation plan, and deliver more outcomes in key areas such as industry, agriculture and mining, Zhao said.
Zhao also said that China supports Pakistan's fight against terrorism, appreciates that Pakistan is among the first to support the four major global initiatives proposed by President Xi, and stands ready to work together with it and other countries to ensure their effective implementation.
The NPC is ready to enhance exchanges and cooperation with Pakistan's National Assembly, deepen experience-sharing in legislation and oversight, and provide legal safeguards for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and the Belt and Road cooperation.
Zhao also called for closer coordination in multilateral platforms such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and briefed the Pakistani side on China's system of people's congresses.
Sadiq said that the Pakistan-China friendship is iron-clad and time-honored, and bilateral relations of the two countries are of strategic importance.
Pakistan firmly supports China's position on issues of its core interests and major concerns, such as on Taiwan, Xinjiang and Xizang, and hopes to further enhance cooperation in all fields, said Sadiq.
He also said Pakistan's National Assembly is willing to deepen exchanges and cooperation with China's NPC to contribute to the promotion of bilateral friendship.
