Japanese people are welcomed to come to China and see pandas, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a press briefing in Beijing on Wednesday.

Guo made the remarks in response to a media query about a pair of twin giant pandas loaned to Japan, who will return to China before February.

"As far as I've learned, according to relevant agreements between China and Japan, the giant pandas Xiao Xiao and Lei Lei loaned to Japan at Ueno Zoological Gardens in Tokyo will return to China on schedule before February 2026. For specific details please refer to the competent authority in China. We understand that there are a large number of giant panda fans in Japan and we welcome Japanese people to come to China and see giant pandas," said Guo.
