Ice and snow tourism continues to gain momentum this winter in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, as Hulin City rolls out upgraded facilities and immersive experiences that are attracting visitors across the world.

At Hulin's Happy Ice and Snow Park, newly upgraded infrastructure is enhancing the appeal of winter sports and recreational activities, allowing tourists to fully enjoy the region’s snowy landscapes.

"This is the first time in my life I've seen so much snow, and everywhere is white. I've never imagined playing in the snow could be this fun. Every activity I tried was so fun. I just went sledging, and when I slid down, it was so fast, and I felt like I was flying," said a tourist from Egypt.

Beyond snow sports, Hulin is also blending tourism with local culture. This winter, the city has upgraded its long-standing ice-fishing activities on the frozen Ussuri River by introducing an "catch-and-cook" experience. Visitors can experience ice fishing and enjoy the fish they caught served hotpot-style right on the spot, combining outdoor adventure with authentic regional cuisine.

"We aim to integrate Hulin's ice and snow advantages with its revolutionary heritage. This year, we focused on expanding and upgrading the Ice and Snow Park while integrating various cultural and tourism resources to create a one-stop, multi-level tourism experience. In the future, we will continue to tap the potential of resources, launch distinctive cultural and tourism activities to attract more domestic and international visitors to Hulin and promote the high-quality development of our cultural tourism industry," said Ma Ying, deputy director of Hulin Culture and Tourism Bureau.

China's services sector sustained robust growth in 2025, with modern service industries playing a leading role in driving national economic expansion, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Monday.

In 2025, the value-added output of China's service sector went up 5.4 percent year on year to 80.89 trillion yuan (about 11.62 trillion U.S. dollars), the data showed.

The sector's contribution to economic growth reached 61.4 percent, up 3.7 percentage points from the previous year.

During the period, the value-added output of information transmission, software and IT service sectors increased 11.1 percent, while that of leasing and business services expanded 10.3 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, emerging service industries strengthened their leading role, with smart, digital technologies accelerating industrial transformation and upgrading.

"As relevant policies are fully implemented, market confidence in the service sector has significantly improved, and the pace of transformation and upgrading has accelerated noticeably. In the future, industrial upgrading, evolving consumer demand, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence will foster new service business models, providing stronger support for stabilizing the macroeconomy and promoting high-quality development," said Hong Qunlian, director of the Service Industry Research Office of the Institute of Industry at the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC)'s Academy of Macroeconomic Research.
