Large flocks of wintering migratory birds were spotted foraging at a wetland park in Lianyungang City, east China's Jiangsu Province, taking advantage of favorable weather conditions after the last round of cold wave.

Various species, including wild cormorant egrets, spot-billed ducks, and mandarin ducks, stroll on the shallows, with their shadows cast on shimmering water, adding some vitality to the winter scenery.

Thanks to the continuous efforts of the local government on ecological conservation and restoration of water bodies, shorelines and wetland functions, the wetland park has become a stable and safe habitat for migratory birds.

The November-through-March window is the best period for birdwatching at the wetland park, when more than 100 species of birds wintering there.

Residents of Helsinki, the Finnish capital, say they hope that Prime Minister Petteri Orpo's visit to China will deepen cooperation between the two countries in different fields.

Orpo arrived in Beijing on Jan 25 for a four-day official visit -- the first official visit by a Finnish prime minister to China in 17 years.

Coinciding with this momentous trip, China Global Television Network (CGTN) spoke to some Helsinki residents, who shared their expectations for bilateral cooperation.

Finnish entrepreneur Artur Kuu said he hopes that China and Finland can pursue innovation together in both the business and education sectors, fostering exciting new opportunities for their two peoples.

"Innovations are always important, of course, and I believe and hope that new cooperation opportunities will arise on the innovation side as well, whether it's among universities or businesses. Innovation is very important. And yes, I believe that by developing these things, we can get really good new businesses and opportunities," said Kuu.

Other Helsinkians said they looked forward to bilateral cooperation on a range of critical issues.

"I believe that the prime minister's visit to China can bring further concrete results to potential joint projects," said Mark Pokidko, a student.

"I hope that after Orpo's visit, there will be more discussions on different levels. And more discussions means more understanding and more understanding means more cooperation and mutually beneficial joint development," said Daniil Pokidko, a researcher at Hanken School of Economics.

"There are a lot of things to discuss. Data security, environmental issues, AI technologies, joint degree programs, science, research," said Evgenii Vologin, a journalist, who added that he had already noticed improvements in bilateral relations.

"The improvements are going from day to day. For example, two years ago, Finnish citizens were granted visa-free access to China which I am, as a citizen of Finland, going to use now, going to China. I don't need a visa anymore, that's good stuff. Finland has a lot of exports and imports from China and to China as well as the EU, and I think when we have the very complicated world nowadays, maintaining the good relationship between two countries is kind of important stuff. People should have a straight talk as much as they can and I think it's the right time," Vologin said.

"Electric vehicles are also important to us, quite a few Chinese brands have already entered the Finnish market, and I believe that this could be at least one area where cooperation is possible. The business sectors of the future may undergo significant transformations, and the same applies to artificial intelligence and environmental protection. Therefore, I believe these are all important areas for cooperation," Kuu said.

"Of course, it would be great if the connection between the countries deepened even further, because I believe there is a lot of potential there, since they are such different countries," said student Mark Pokidko.
