China Coast Guard (CCG) on Sunday released, for the first time, a video footage of its law enforcement operations near Diaoyu Dao, marking the fifth anniversary of the entry into force of the country's Coast Guard Law.

The footage showed CCG vessels conduct regular patrol operation close to the islands.

Effective as of February 1, 2021, the Coast Guard Law provides a clear legal framework for Coast Guard operations at sea, marking a key milestone in strengthening the country's maritime rule of law.

In an interview with China Central Television, Yang Xiao, deputy director of the Institute of Maritime Strategy Studies at the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, said this development shows that CCG patrols around Diaoyu Dao have become routine, reflecting China's determination to safeguard its sovereignty, security and development interests.

"We captured images of Diaoyu Dao at a very close distance, and we can see that the CCG law-enforcement forces are operating at a very short distance from the Diaoyu Dao. It shows that normal patrols and law enforcement operations we have carried out around the Diaoyu Dao over the past decade have now become a new normal. We have shown our patrols and law enforcement activities to the general public and news media, so that the public can see real images of the Diaoyu Dao through the lens. In fact, it is visualization of our governance of the Diaoyu Dao. It also demonstrates our effective exercise of jurisdiction and administration over the islands and our determination to protect our country's sovereignty, security and development interests," he said.

The Sanya Phoenix International Airport, located in the resort city of Sanya in south China's tropical island province of Hainan, commenced the trial operation of its newly built Terminal 3 (T3) on Sunday, marking a major expansion of the tourism hub's capacity ahead of the 2026 Spring Festival travel rush.

With the addition of T3, the airport's annual passenger throughput is projected to reach 30 million trips.

The terminal will fully assume the function of handling domestic flights, featuring 40 check-in counters, 23 security screening lanes, and seven fixed boarding bridges.

Connected to Terminals 1 and 2 via enclosed corridors, it is intended to deliver a seamless travel experience for passengers.

During the 2026 Spring Festival travel season, spanning from February 2 to March 13, the Sanya Phoenix International Airport is expected to handle about 18,600 flights and 3.49 million passenger trips.

By leveraging T3's added capacity, the airport aims to alleviate operational pressure on other terminals and improve service efficiency during the peak travel period.

"The airport will work to enhance its overall operational capacity and turnover efficiency, strengthen end-to-end flight management, and focus efforts on increasing the rate of flights docking at bridges and the on-time rate, to keep improving travel experience for passengers," said Li Xiaohuan, assistant to the president of the Sanya Phoenix International Airport.
