Chinese stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.26 percent to 4,082.07 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.28 percent lower at 14,100.19 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices totaled around 1.98 trillion yuan (about 285.31 billion U.S. dollars), down from 2.14 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks in the film and paper-making sectors led the gains, while the steel and port sectors posted the biggest losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.57 percent to close at 3,275.96 points on Friday.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 0.38 percent lower at 1,809.18 points on Friday.
