General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Xi Jinping on Monday congratulated Kim Jong Un on his election as the general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Kim was elected as the party's general secretary at the Ninth Congress of the WPK, the ruling party of the DPRK.

In his congratulatory message, Xi said since the Eighth Congress of the WPK held in 2021, the WPK Central Committee with General Secretary Kim Jong Un at its helm has led the DPRK people to strive hard and make new accomplishments continuously in the socialist construction.

It reflects the high trust and sincere support of the WPK, the government and the people for comrade Kim that he was elected as the general secretary again.

It is of great significance that the Ninth Congress of the WPK was successfully held when the cause of the party and the country entered a crucial stage that bridges the past and the future, Xi said, adding that he wishes the party and the people will take this congress as an opportunity to continuously make new advances in DPRK's socialist cause under the strong leadership of the WPK Central Committee with General Secretary Kim Jong Un at its helm.

Xi said as China and the DPRK are friendly neighboring socialist countries, bonded by solidarity and mutual assistance, it has always been an unwavering policy of the CPC and the Chinese government to maintain, consolidate and develop China-DPRK relations.

Xi said in recent years, he has met with Kim on many occasions, effectively leading to the positive development of bilateral ties.

Noting that changes unseen in a century are unfolding across the world at a faster pace, and the international landscape is witnessing turbulence and transformation, Xi said he is ready to work with Kim to guide the relevant departments and local authorities of both sides to implement the important consensus they have reached and write a new chapter of China-DPRK friendship, so as to serve the socialist construction of the two countries, enhance the well-being and friendship of the two peoples, and make positive contributions to promoting peace, stability, development and prosperity in the region and even the rest of the world.

Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have reaffirmed that they will not seek normalization of ties with Israel, rejecting U.S. President Donald Trump's call for the two countries to join the Abraham Accords.

Saudi Arabia's position on the Palestinian issue remains unchanged, a Saudi source told Al Arabiya TV on Monday.

The source affirmed the need for "an irreversible pathway to a Palestinian state".

The remarks came after U.S. President Donald Trump urged Muslim-majority and regional countries to normalize relations with Israel and join the Abraham Accords before the U.S. reaches a peace agreement with Iran.

Saudi Arabia has repeatedly said it would not normalize relations with Israel without the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said on Tuesday that Pakistan will not join any agreement to normalize ties with Israel, adding that the country will not accept any deal that "conflicts with its fundamental ideologies".

Trump on Monday urged Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey and Pakistan -- countries involved in mediating U.S.-Iran talks -- to immediately join the Abraham Accords, warning that otherwise they should not participate in the mediation.

He added that if a U.S.-Iran deal is reached, Iran should also join the agreement.

The Abraham Accords, brokered by the United States in 2020 during Trump's first term, were established between the Israeli government and Arab countries including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan and Morocco, aimed at rapidly advancing the normalization of relations between Israel and Arab countries.

Before the outbreak of the latest round of Israeli-Palestinian conflict in October 2023, the United States had been pushing for normalization between Saudi Arabia and Israel.

After the conflict erupted, Saudi Arabia suspended normalization talks with Israel.
