About one million lanterns are illuminating the ancient city of Kaifeng in central China's Henan Province in preparation for celebrating the upcoming Lantern Festival.

The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the first month on the Chinese lunar calendar, or March 3 this year. It marks the end of the celebrations of the Chinese New Year holiday which begins with the Spring Festival.

The Millennium City Park, a cultural park modeled on the lifestyle of the Song Dynasty (960-1279), hosts the annual lantern fair, featuring large creative lantern displays and lanterns themed around the 2026 Chinese New Year, which is a Year of the Horse in the 12-animal Chinese zodiac. The event offers visitors a vivid mix of art and color.

Festival-goers dressed in traditional costumes can join parades of fish-shaped lanterns, strolling through the park in an immersive celebration of light.
