China's economic development will continue to inject precious stability and certainty into a turbulent world, said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning at a press briefing in Beijing on Friday.
She made the remarks in response to a media query concerning China's economic growth target of 4.5 to 5 percent set for 2026, which was announced by Premier Li Qiang when he delivered the government work report on Thursday morning at the opening meeting of the fourth session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC).
"In the government work report delivered yesterday, Premier Li Qiang outlined the developmental achievements made during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025). China's economy has reached new heights, jumping by 10 trillion yuan almost annually. The economic increment over the past five years exceeds 35 trillion yuan, equivalent to a medium-sized economy. This remarkable outcome was achieved despite a complex and severe landscape where external shocks were intertwined with domestic challenges. This fully demonstrates the strong resilience and vitality of the Chinese economy," said Mao.
"Looking ahead, as Premier Li Qiang noted, we are clearly aware of the difficulties and challenges facing us. However, the underlying conditions and fundamental trend supporting China's long-term sound economic growth remain unchanged. China's institutional strengths as well as its strengths as a major country continue to manifest. As long as we fully leverage our strengths and properly address the challenges, China's development prospects will be even brighter. We will fully implement the new development philosophy, accelerate the pace of creating a new development pattern, and strive for high-quality development, as well as promote higher-quality economic growth while achieving an appropriate increase in economic output. We will further expand high-standard opening up, remain committed to win-win cooperation, steadily expand institutional opening up, and promote broader international economic flows, to share more fruits of China's development with the people of all countries," Mao noted.
"China's economic development blueprint demonstrates strategic resolve, effective policy implementation, vibrant growth momentum, and strong governance capacity, which will provide a turbulent world with precious stability and certainty," said the spokeswoman.
