Wang Xiaolong, a member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top political advisory body, emphasized the goal of empowering China's machine tool industry with homegrown core technologies.

Wang, who is also the general manager of Fustech Intelligent Equipment Co., Ltd. in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, made the statement during a group interview at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Saturday.

"Ningxia has a solid foundation in equipment manufacturing. My team and I have been rooted there for nearly 30 years, sharing a common goal - to truly equip China's industrial mother machines with Chinese-developed technologies," he stated.

Recalling his early career, Wang said that, after graduating from university in the late 1990s, he worked for a Sino-foreign joint venture in the machine tool sector. There, he witnessed the technology gap firsthand and felt the impact of unequal capabilities. At that time, foreign machine tools could operate without failure for up to 5,000 hours, whereas domestically produced ones managed only about 2,300 hours.

Later, Wang started his own company in Ningxia and partnered with universities and research institutes to sustain long-term efforts to tackle key technologies for machine tools.

He said his team spent three months in the workshop and eventually identified the crucial details needed for breakthroughs in core technologies.

"China's machine tools can now compete with world-leading equipment in ultra-precision machining. In recent years, domestically made high-end machine tools have been used directly in manufacturing major national projects such as large passenger aircrafts and aircraft engines," he noted.

In Wang's view, those achievements stem from China's complete industrial system, vast market demand, and continued sci-tech innovation.

Looking ahead, he said, their goal is to continuously innovate, accelerate breakthroughs, and achieve independent control of core technologies.

The fourth session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee opened in Beijing on Wednesday and will run through March 11.
