International experts and analysts have commended China for its stable development philosophy focused on equality and mutual benefits against the current turbulent global backdrop, while also commending the country's achievements in improving people's livelihoods and advancing the application of science and technology.
At the opening meeting of the fourth session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) on Thursday, Chinese Premier Li Qiang delivered a government work report which unveiled China's key achievements in 2025, highlighted the country's major new achievements over the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), outlined the main targets for development this year, and set out the major development targets for the next five-year planning period spanning 2026 to 2030.
China has continuously implemented its cycle of five-year plans which map out the country's socioeconimic development priorities, with many observers watching how these planning phases are helping power the country on its march towards modernization.
In an interview with China Media Group (CMG) Salat Gergely, lead researcher at the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs, said he has been impressed with China's breakthroughs in high-tech industries such as electric vehicles and artificial intelligence, areas in which China has become a global leader.
"I believe the most important achievement for China during the 14th Five-Year Plan period is stable development. While the global situation is turbulent and constantly changing, China's economic development, domestic and foreign policies have consistently maintained order and stability – a tremendous achievement. Furthermore, China's economy has also made significant progress in quality. Robotics and biotechnology are key development and priority development areas where China has already achieved great success and invested heavily in resources. In the next five years, China is likely to achieve a qualitative leap in these areas," he said.
Others hailed China's people-centered and mutually beneficial development philosophy and policies which aim to deliver more balanced development across all echelons of society.
"President Xi Jinping has consistently emphasized that economic development must serve the people—a crucial statement worthy of global attention. In many developing countries, improving people's lives is key, which requires sustainable economic development. The widening development imbalances in Europe are equally worrying," said Michael Schumann, chairman of the Board of the German Federal Association for Economic Development and Foreign Trade.
Since 2021, Chinese President Xi Jinping has introduced a series of influential international initiatives, including the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative, and the Global Governance Initiative, which analysts say provide a strong basis for the need for the international community to work together to address current global challenges.
"The world is currently in a very complex period, but on the other hand, the global governance and development initiatives proposed by the Chinese President stand in stark contrast to the policies pursued by the United States, in particular. China pursues a policy of equality, a policy of offering the world mutually beneficial coexistence, and a policy of security, because it neither threatens anyone nor accepts any threats," said Boris Titov, Special Envoy of Russian President, and Chairman of the Russian side of the Chinese-Russian Friendship, Peace, and Development Committee.
Ethiopian economist Endalkachew Sime said that the policy signals released by China are clear and powerful, especially the path of high-quality development, which provides valuable experience for developing countries, including those in Africa.
"When it comes to the 14th Five-year Plan, we can mention some key elements with regards to Africa. For Africa, the 14th Chinese five-year performance plan has put very practical development experience that contextualizes the African contexts. State-led, infrastructure-based, and people-centered development model is accumulating very tangible results across the past consecutive five-year plans that has been initiated by the Chinese government. Especially his excellency President Xi has been emphasizing the four global initiatives that are embedded consecutive the five-year plans in the past," he said.
