China's State Post Bureau announced Monday that the express delivery development index for January and February rose by 1.5 percent year on year, indicating steady growth and robust resilience in the market.

According to the latest statistics from the bureau, the index reached 374.1 in the first two months of 2026.

This growth was driven by multiple factors, including the Spring Festival holiday and consumption vouchers and subsidies, which collectively supported the steady expansion of the express delivery sector.

In January, average daily volume of express deliveries exceeded 590 million items.

During the Spring Festival travel rush that runs from Feb 2 through March 13, daily volume rose to approximately 670 million items in the first week.

Delivery personnel remained steadfast throughout the holiday, ensuring robust service. After the holiday, the industry quickly returned to normal operations, with peak daily volumes surpassing 700 million items.

"During the Spring Festival holiday, demand for delivering festive goods and tourist products was strong. Fresh items such as beef, mutton, seafood, and fruits, along with electronic products, saw a marked increase in delivery volumes. Express delivery companies enhanced their response speed and service accuracy through innovations in products, technology and business models, fueling the continued growth of holiday consumption," said Liu Jiang, director of the strategic planning department at the State Post Bureau's Development Research Center.

China's judicial authorities have effectively worked to safeguard public safety and fight against organized crimes on a regular basis over the past year, according to a work report of the Supreme People's Court submitted Monday to the national legislature for deliberation.

The work report was delivered by Zhang Jun, president of the Supreme People's Court, at the second plenary meeting of the fourth annual session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) in Beijing.

"Over the past year, we have effectively worked to safeguard public safety. We have maintained a regular campaign against organized crime and criminal gangs, and intensified punishment for new types of drug-related crimes, and continued efforts to curb drunk driving. The number of people sentenced for drunk driving fell from about 320,000 in 2023 to around 230,000 in 2025, with declines also seen in traffic accidents, deaths and injuries caused by drunk driving. Sixteen ringleaders of four major criminal gangs in northern Myanmar were sentenced to death in accordance with law. Crimes committed against Chinese citizens overseas are being punished according to law," Zhang said at the meeting.

The 14th NPC is holding its fourth annual session from March 5 through March 12.
