China's high-quality development carries significant implications for world: global observers

International observers have highlighted the positive signals emerging from China's ongoing "two sessions," noting that the country's push for a strong start to the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) period demonstrates the robust momentum of its high-quality development and continues to inject confidence into the global economy.

Experts and officials from around the world pointed to China's development experience as a valuable reference for Global South nations, offering alternative pathways for achieving modernization and sustainable development.

"President Xi stated that [Chinese] modernization is modernization that leads to common prosperity for all. This model injects confidence into the Global South nations, including Nigeria. It demonstrates that there is more than one path leading to modernization. The 'common prosperity' emphasized in the Chinese path provides a Chinese solution to the world's escalating problems of wealth gaps and distributive injustice. This is not only China's achievement, but also a new form of human advancement," said Sen Abubakar Sani Bello, chairman of Nigeria's Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs.

In Singapore, a prominent economist echoed this sentiment, highlighting the institutional strengths underpinning China's development trajectory.

"The [CPC's] centralized leadership has provided strong state capacity and long-term policy continuity, enabling large-scale infrastructure development, industrial upgrading, coordinated green and technological strategies, and historically significant poverty reduction. Globally, this presents an alternative modernization narrative and this offers a different pathway from the traditional Western models, and this is very relevant, particularly for developing countries in the Global South," said Tan Kong Yam, Emeritus Professor of Economics at the School of Social Sciences of Nanyang Technological University of Singapore.

Stephan Ossenkopp, a senior expert at German-based think tank Schiller Institute underlined the global significance of China's policy direction, particularly its emphasis on technological cooperation and shared development.

"I think the two sessions have created a comprehensive vision for the future of not only China, but for mankind. So the recent 25 years, under the guidance of the Five-Year Plans, have created an immense leadership role of China in technology and that's very significant because China is a country that is connected to the world via the Belt and Road Initiative and via many multilateral organizations. So they are more likely and they intend to share technologies with their partners," he said.

"So these initiatives of President Xi are very important, very central. If sovereign nations treat each other with respect and have the security and development interest of the other also in mind, then I think the future can be a peaceful future," said Ossenkopp.

A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Wednesday slammed Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te over his latest remarks on cross-Strait relations, accusing him of promoting secessionism and escalating tensions across the Taiwan Strait.

Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said in a press release that Lai's speech marking his second anniversary in office was "filled with lies and deception, hostility and confrontation."

Chen accused Lai of stubbornly adhering to a secessionist stance in pursuit of "Taiwan independence," while exaggerating the so-called threats from the mainland and intensifying confrontation across the Strait.

Lai played an old trick of advocating the secessionist agenda on one hand and, on the other, calling insincerely for dialogue and exchanges with the mainland, attempting to mislead people in Taiwan and deceive the international community, he said.

Chen said that these common tricks have been seen through by more and more Taiwanese people. Their deceptive and provocative actions will be met with firm opposition from compatriots on both sides and the international community, and are doomed to fail.

Reaffirming the mainland's position on the Taiwan question, Chen said Taiwan has never been a country, is not one now, and will never become one in the future.

He described the Taiwan question as a historical issue left over from a Chinese civil war in the 1940s.

No election result in Taiwan could alter the fact that Taiwan is part of China or sever the historical and legal bonds linking the two sides of the Strait, according to Chen.

The mainland would never allow any person or force to pursue secessionist activities under any pretext, he added.

Calling secessionists "the chief culprit" who undermines cross-Strait peace, Chen said the mainland would continue to uphold the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus, unite broadly with Taiwan compatriots, combat secessionist activities, and safeguard peace and stability across the Strait.
