US embassy in Baghdad attacked

The U.S. embassy in Baghdad, capital of Iraq, was attacked on Monday morning, according to a China Media Group (CMG) reporter stationed in the country.

The U.S. embassy immediately activated its air raid sirens and the C-RAM air defense system, intercepting an incoming projectile.

It remains unclear whether the projectile was a drone or a rocket.

Video footage captured by the CMG reporter showed smoke in the air above the area surrounding the embassy compound.

So far, the U.S. side has not responded to the attack.

The central parity rate of the Chinese currency renminbi, or the yuan, weakened 50 pips to 6.9057 against the U.S. dollar Monday, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trade System.

In China's spot foreign exchange market, the yuan is allowed to rise or fall by 2 percent from the central parity rate each trading day.

The central parity rate of the yuan against the U.S. dollar is based on a weighted average of prices offered by market makers before the opening of the interbank market each business day.
