A total of 21 major scientific and technological breakthroughs were unveiled at a special press conference of the 2026 Zhongguancun Forum (ZGC Forum) Annual Conference on Sunday, the closing day of the event.
Among the achievements is the High Energy Photon Source, China's flagship synchrotron radiation facility, which is now in trial operations. It marks the country's entry into the high-energy "4.0 era" of synchrotron radiation and a shift from a follower to a leader in the field.
A system known as the "Tongzhi Brain" was also introduced, equipping robots with a general-purpose decision-making center and advancing the large-scale application of embodied artificial intelligence.
Notably, China's first shoulder joint replacement surgical robot has been put into routine use for remote operations at Beijing Jishuitan Hospital. Specialists in Beijing can plan procedures remotely, while real-time data transmission enables the robot to carry out precise surgeries in other locations.
In addition, policies and reports were released on the closing day, including one on promoting the development and application of commercial insurance for intelligent connected new energy vehicles (NEVs). Key cooperation agreements were also signed.
Themed "Full Integration Between Technological and Industrial Innovation," the 2026 ZGC Forum Annual Conference, was held in Beijing from Wednesday to Sunday, attracting thousands of participants from more than 100 countries and regions across the world to explore the latest trends in China's technological development.
The forum featured a total of 115 events across five sections, including forum conferences, achievement releases, technology trade fairs, frontier competitions and supporting events.
