Efforts will be made to highlight the opportunities of the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP) at the upcoming China International Consumer Products Expo (CICPE), which will take place in Haikou, capital city of south China's Hainan Province, Bateer, executive vice governor of the province said on Monday.

Jointly hosted by China's Ministry of Commerce and the Hainan provincial government, the sixth CICPE, scheduled from April 13 to 18, marks the first edition of the event since the Hainan FTP fully launched island-wide special customs operations.

Speaking at a press conference in Beijing, Bateer said that preparation for the expo has been basically completed.

"We are seizing the opportunity presented by global companies' keen interest in the island-wide special customs operations of the Hainan FTP to fully showcase Hainan's new image, achievements, and opportunities. On the one hand, we support exhibitors in making good use of the customs clearance facilitation measures tailored to the special customs operations of the FTP, and duty-free policies for imported exhibits at the CICPE. On the other hand, leveraging the policy advantages of the Hainan FTP in areas such as medical and health services and yacht consumption, we have set up an international yacht exhibition area in Sanya, and an international health consumption exhibition area in the Bo'ao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone, innovatively displaying new consumption scenarios and services in health, culture and tourism," Bateer said.

Chinese Vice Commerce Minister Sheng Qiuping said at the press conference that the CICPE has become a strong boost to the building of the Hainan FTP, adding that more than 70 leading enterprises have so far established operations in Hainan after participating in the expo.

"During the CICPE, we'll also hold the 2026 Global Industrial Investment Promotion Conference for the Hainan Free Trade Port. Closely following the policy dividends of the special customs operations of the Hainan FTP and the reality of industrial development, we have identified nearly 100 application scenarios, and selected over 50 successful cases from the more than 70 companies that Minister Sheng just mentioned as having established operations in Hainan. Focusing on sectors such as biomedicine, digital economy, deep-sea technology, and commercial aerospace, we have planned 300 high-quality investment projects," said Bateer.

The decision came during the 165th regular session of the AL Council at the ministerial level, held via video conference, to discuss regional developments.
