Any deliberate attack on the United Nations peacekeepers is absolutely unacceptable and must stop immediately, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a press briefing in Beijing on Monday.
Mao made the statement in response to a media query on Israel's strikes in southern Lebanon, which killed one UN peacekeeper.
"China strongly condemns the attack on the UN Interim Force in Lebanon, mourn for the victims and extend sympathies to the injured. Any deliberate attack on UN peacekeepers seriously violates international humanitarian law and the UN Security Council Resolution 1701, is absolutely unacceptable and must stop immediately. China urges the parties concerned to de-escalate the situation and take concrete measures to guarantee the safety of UN peacekeepers," she said.
