All 31 provincial-level regions in the Chinese mainland recorded positive year-on-year growth in industrial added value for above-designated-size industrial enterprises in the first quarter of 2026, an official from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said on Tuesday.
Industrial enterprises above designated size are those with annual revenue from principal business over 20 million yuan (about 2.93 million U.S. dollars).
"China's industrial economy has maintained steady growth, with further strengthening of the development momentum. The total value added of industrial enterprises above the designated size grew by 6.1 percent year on year in the first quarter, with those in all 31 provincial-level regions in the mainland achieving positive growth. The growth coverage among industries exceeded 80 percent, and the industry contributed nearly 40 percent to the overall economic growth," said Zhang Yunming, MIIT vice minister, at a press conference in Beijing.
