China urges the United States to stop meddling in Hong Kong affairs in any form, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a press briefing in Beijing on Tuesday.
Guo made the remarks in response to a question on the "2026 Hong Kong Policy Act Report" released by the U.S. State Department last week.
"The United States has once again released a so-called 'report' filled with lies and fallacies, making irresponsible remarks on and pointing fingers at Hong Kong affairs. China strongly deplores and firmly rejects it, and has made solemn démarches to the U.S.," he said.
"Since Hong Kong's return, the Chinese government has always fully, faithfully and firmly implemented the principles of One Country, Two Systems, Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong and a high degree of autonomy. The Law on Safeguarding National Security in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Safeguarding National Security Ordinance have better guaranteed the rights and freedoms Hong Kong residents enjoy according to law, better promoted Hong Kong's prosperity and stability, and better safeguarded the the international community's legitimate rights and interests in Hong Kong. In accordance with the law, the law enforcement and judicial authorities of the Hong Kong SAR punish law-offending criminal activities that endanger national security, which is fully justified, lawful and beyond reproach. Hong Kong has now shifted from rule of law to thriving and entered a new stage of development. We believe that on the new journey of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) and under the institutional guarantee of One Country, Two Systems, Hong Kong is bound to have an even brighter future," Guo said.
"We'd stress that Hong Kong is China's Hong Kong and Hong Kong's affairs are purely China's internal affairs. The Chinese government has unwavering resolve in safeguarding its national sovereignty, security and development interests. We urge the U.S. side to observe the principles of international law and the basic norms governing international relations, and immediately stop meddling in Hong Kong affairs and China's internal affairs in any form," said Guo.
