The China Public Diplomacy Association invited officials and experts to engage with global journalists on preparations for the upcoming APEC 2026 at an event called the "Linjia No.7 Salon"in Beijing on Monday.

A salon event centered around the APEC 2026 was held in Beijing on Monday, gathering experts to discuss ways of strengthening regional economic integration and resilience.

Hosted by the China Public Diplomacy Association, Chinese officials engaged global journalists on the preparations for this year's APEC summit at the event called the "Linjia No.7 Salon".

The 33rd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting is scheduled to take place in Shenzhen City in south China's Guangdong Province on Nov. 18 and 19, alongside an APEC CEO Summit and a joint ministerial meeting of foreign and trade ministers.

Chen Xu, Chair of the 2026 APEC Senior Officials' Meeting, announced that APECs overarching theme this year is "Building an Asia-Pacific Community to Prosper Together," with China focusing on its three core priorities of openness, innovation, and cooperation.

"We will continue to firmly uphold the multilateral trading system and adhere to open regionalism. We will actively coordinate the different paths toward the establishment of the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP), including exploring the synergy between the RCEP and the CPTPP, so as to help make new strides in the building of the FTAAP. We hope to build an all-dimensional connectivity network," Chen said.

The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) is tasked with organizing the series of APEC business events throughout the year. This year, it will host the APEC CEO Summit, the APEC Business Advisory Council, and the APEC CEO China Forum, with all preparations proceeding smoothly, according to Wu Meng, head of CCPIT.

"In mid-November, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) will host the APEC CEO Summit in Shenzhen. We will invite leaders from relevant APEC economies, key representatives of the business community, and heads of international organizations to gather for this grand event, to discuss cooperation, and to jointly seek development. Based on the outcomes of APEC's work throughout the year, the APEC CEO Summit Shenzhen Initiative (2026) will be released at the summit," said Wu told the reporters.

Experts at the briefing outlined ways in which the APEC annual meetings in Shenzhen will facilitate consultations on regional economic integration and digital development among member economies, strengthen collaboration on global supply chains and value chains across the Asia-Pacific, and serve as an effective response to global headwinds of decoupling, supply chain disruptions, and geopolitical conflicts.

Russia has largely expanded the blacklist of European Union (EU) officials banned from entering the country in response to Brussels' 20th sanctions package against Moscow, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Monday.

The EU continues its attempts to pressure Russia by scaling up unilateral restrictive measures, the ministry said in a statement, adding that Brussels' destructive actions grossly violate the norms of international law.

"We have also imposed restrictive measures against civil society activists and academics in European countries who hold hostile positions toward Russia, as well as members of national parliaments of EU member states and the European Parliament who voted in favor of anti-Russian resolutions and bills," said the statement.

Russia has also barred entry to representatives of European institutions and EU member states involved in decisions on providing military aid to Ukraine, it added.

European Council President Antonio Costa said on Thursday that the EU has approved a 90-billion-euro loan package for Ukraine, along with a 20th round of sanctions against Russia.
