Latest reports from both Russia and Ukraine showed continuing strike exchanges in multiple locations on Wednesday, although both sides expressed intentions to observe short-term ceasefires unilaterally.

According to Russia's Defense Ministry, Russian forces shot down 46 Ukrainian drones across several regions within Russian territory on Wednesday.

In the Zaporizhzhia region in southern Ukraine, Maxim Pukhov, Russia-appointed mayor of Energodar, where the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is located, said the city's administrative building had again come under Ukrainian attack that day.

Russian Foreign Ministry's Ambassador-at-Large Rodion Miroshnik said that a series of attacks and acts of sabotage indicate that the Kiev regime is incapable of fulfilling its declared ceasefire, and its commitments are questionable.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Wednesday that Russia continued its military operations on all key frontline areas despite Ukraine's proposal for a ceasefire and warned that Kiev will respond in kind.

Since the beginning of Wednesday, the Russian military launched nearly 30 attacks. From nighttime to early morning, more than 20 airstrikes were recorded across Ukraine. Russian forces carried out strikes using missiles, aerial bombs, and drones, with Ukrainian forces shooting down 90 drones, the Ukrainian president said.

On Monday, Russia's Defense Ministry declared a ceasefire on May 8-9 in honor of the Victory Day celebration.

Also on Monday, Zelensky said Ukraine would implement a ceasefire with Russia starting Wednesday.

Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov arrived in Beijing on Wednesday night for a two-day visit to China.

Aripov will co-chair the eighth session of the China-Uzbekistan Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee with Chinese Vice Premier Liu Guozhong.

China has remained Uzbekistan's largest trading partner for several consecutive years. Data released by Chinese Customs shows that in the first quarter of 2026 alone, bilateral trade turnover rose by more than 35 percent year on year to over 4.1 billion U.S. dollars.

In recent years, cooperation between the two countries has shown full-scale expansion and vigorous development, in fields including new energy, smart agriculture, green minerals, high technologies, and public health.

One flagship cooperative project is the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, designed to boost trade and economic ties across Central Asia, creating a diverse framework of connectivity.

Meanwhile, the two sides have also enhanced law enforcement and security cooperation, and further strengthened coordination on international and regional affairs within the frameworks of China-Central Asia mechanism as well as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
