Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.48 percent to 4,180.09 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.18 percent higher at 15,641.89 points.
The combined turnover of the two indices totaled 3.14 trillion yuan (about 458.5 billion U.S. dollars), down from 3.23 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Optical communication stocks led the gains, while the coal sector declined.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.45 percent to close at 3,833.06 points.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 1.99 percent higher at 2,064.03 points.
