Abu Dhabi's Phoenix Group Partners with DC Max to Unlock $8 Billion European AI Data Center Opportunity, with Lyon, France as First Deployment

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 13, 2026--

Phoenix Group PLC (ADX: PHX), an IHC portfolio company and global digital infrastructure operator, today announced a strategic partnership with DC Max to develop its first European AI data center, an 18MW facility in Lyon, France.

This press release features multimedia. View the full release here: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20260512531777/en/

The project is the inaugural deployment of Phoenix's European Data Center Platform, a scalable framework targeting over 1GW of combined AI and HPC capacity across Europe and the GCC.

Phoenix sees this move as a direct extension of the UAE’s national AI ambition, an Abu Dhabi-headquartered company bringing its operational expertise and capital to the European stage, ensuring regionally headquartered operators are active shapers, not spectators, of the global AI economy.

“What we are announcing today is not an incremental step; it is a genuine inflection point for Phoenix and for what an Emirati company can achieve on the global stage. We are establishing a presence at the heart of European AI infrastructure, bringing the conviction and capital to build something that will compound in value for years to come. The 1GW ambition is not a ceiling; it is a starting point. I am proud that it is a company headquartered in Abu Dhabi that is leading this charge, and I believe this is precisely the kind of bold, global move that our shareholders, our partners, and the UAE’s own AI ambitions deserve.”

— Munaf Ali, Co-Founder and GCEO, Phoenix Group

The European Opportunity

Demand for AI compute in Europe is rapidly outpacing supply, with enterprises and hyperscalers reserving capacity years in advance. Traditional development timelines, often 36 to 48 months, mean most operators cannot respond at the speed the market requires.

France addresses this gap more directly than almost any other European market. Lyon, France’s second-largest city, combines a strong industrial base, robust electrical infrastructure, and land costs that are significantly lower than in Paris.

DC Max’s established grid access and permitting relationships, combined with Phoenix’s proven ability to design, procure, and build infrastructure at pace, allow the partnership to move materially faster than typical European timescales.

A Platform, Not a Project

The DC Max partnership is structured as a repeatable development model rather than a single transaction. With a pipeline of over 1GW of opportunities valued at an estimated $8 billion, DC Max contributes deep expertise in site origination, permitting, and grid access. At the same time, Phoenix brings capital and operational scale.

Together, the two companies aim to create a scalable, long-term infrastructure platform capable of delivering AI-ready capacity at speed across key European markets.

This platform sits alongside Phoenix’s existing 550MW of deployed capacity across the UAE, Oman, North America, and Ethiopia, supporting its ambition to become a scaled global digital infrastructure operator.

“Phoenix brings exactly the kind of operational scale and capital discipline that French data center development has been waiting for. We have spent years identifying and securing the best power positions in this market, in Lyon and across France, and this partnership means we can now move on that pipeline at a pace and scale that would not have been possible independently. The demand is there. The sites are there. What this partnership adds is the ability to deliver.”

— Romain Fremont, CEO, DC Max

Further announcements are expected in 2026.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Angel Martinez homered and Cleveland’s pitchers struck out 13 as the Guardians kept up their home mastery of the Los Angeles Angels with a 3-2 victory on Tuesday night.

Martinez, Patrick Bailey and Bryan Rocchio drove in runs for Cleveland, which improved to 29-4 against the Angels at Progressive Field since 2015. The Guardians have won the first two games in the series despite being outhit twice.

Vaughn Grissom homered for the Angels, who dropped to 8-17 on the road.

YANKEES 6, ORIOLES 2

BALTIMORE (AP) — Paul Goldschmidt homered on the first pitch of the game, Trent Grisham hit a three-run shot and New York beat Baltimore to end a four-game losing streak.

Will Warren (5-1) allowed two runs and four hits in 5 2/3 innings for the Yankees. It was a bounce-back performance by the right-hander, who yielded six runs over four innings to Texas in his previous start.

Goldschmidt’s fourth career leadoff homer and second in four days put New York in front for good, and Grisham’s drive made it 6-0 in the third. Both home runs came off lefty Trevor Rogers, who lasted only four innings in his return from the injured list following an extended illness.

Pitching for the first time since April 25, Rogers (2-4) gave up six runs and six hits, raising his ERA to 5.77 compared to 1.81 in 2025.

PIRATES 3, ROCKIES 1

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Paul Skenes allowed two hits over eight masterful innings to help Pittsburgh topple Colorado.

The reigning National League Cy Young winner carried a no-hitter into the seventh while retiring 18 of the first 19 batters he faced. Colorado’s Mickey Moniak broke up the no-hit bid when he dumped a single into left-center field with one out in the seventh. Skenes (6-2) retired Hunter Goodman and TJ Rumfield to end the threat.

Skenes returned for the eighth, giving up a one-out double to Troy Johnston before getting a flyout and a ground ball. The 23-year-old received a standing ovation on his way back to the dugout after throwing out Ezequiel Tovar to end the eighth. Skenes tipped his cap before making his way down the dugout steps after finishing with a season-high 10 strikeouts and lowering his ERA to 1.98.

Oneil Cruz had three hits for the Pirates. Nick Gonzales added two hits, including an RBI-single off Michael Lorenzen (2-5) in the first that gave Skenes all the offense he would need.

PHILLIES 2, RED SOX 1

BOSTON (AP) — Kyle Schwarber tied a Phillies record by homering for the fifth consecutive game, hitting his major league-high 17th to lead Philadelphia Boston and give Don Mattingly his 900th managerial win.

Philadelphia (20-22) has won three straight and six of eight, improving to 11-3 since Mattingly took over as manager from Ron Thomson on April 28.

Zach Wheeler (2-0) gave up one run and six hits in 7 1/3 innings with four strikeouts.

Schwarber has six homers in his last five games. He joined Bobby Abreu, Dick Allen, Odúbel Herrera, Rhys Hoskins, Mike Schmidt, Trea Turner and Chase Utley as Phillies homering in five games in a row.

BRAVES 5, CUBS 2

ATLANTA (AP) — Grant Holmes combined with three relievers on a one-hitter, Austin Riley and Mike Yastrzemski homered and Atlanta beat Chicago in the opener of a three-game set between the National League’s top teams.

Didier Fuentes (2-0) worked three scoreless innings in relief of Holmes, who had not pitched since May 1. Atlanta’s starter worked four innings, allowing a solo homer to Alex Bregman and an RBI grounder by Moisés Ballesteros. He walked four and struck out five while throwing 78 pitches.

Dylan Lee pitched a perfect eighth and Raisel Iglesias went 1-2-3 in the ninth for his seventh save. Iglesias has not allowed a run over 11 2/3 innings this season.

Yastrzemski was 2 for 2 with three RBIs, including his two-run homer in the fifth inning that landed in front of the Chop House restaurant in right field. Earlier in the inning, Riley hit a solo shot 409 feet to left field that tied it at 2-all.

NATIONALS 10, REDS 4

CINCINNATI (AP) — James Wood hit his 12th home run of the season, and Luis Garcia Jr. and Daylen Lile each went deep twice as part of a six-homer night by Washington in a win over Cincinnati.

Brady House also homered for the Nationals, who improved to 14-9 on the road. That’s the second-most road wins in the majors behind Atlanta’s 16.

Lile and García became the sixth pair of Nationals players to homer twice in the same game. The last were Brian Dozier and Juan Soto on Aug. 18, 2019.

Washington has 50 homers this season and surpassed its previous high of four in a game, set on May 6 in a win over Minnesota.

Reds starter Brady Singer was struck on the right foot by a line drive off the bat of Lile in the second inning but remained in the game after being assessed by training staff. He later had an X-ray that came back clean, the team said.

TWINS 3, MARLINS 0

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Bailey Ober threw a two-hitter for his first career shutout, leading Minnesota to a victory over Miami in their series opener.

Byron Buxton stole home and Ryan Jeffers hit a two-run homer for the Twins, who have won three straight games.

Ober (4-2) threw 89 pitches in his third career complete game. He struck out seven, walked none and didn’t allow a hit after the fourth.

Eury Pérez (2-5) didn’t allow a hit until the fifth, when Trevor Larnach’s single moved Buxton to third to set up the double-steal.

BREWERS 6, PADRES 4

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Joey Ortiz homered for the first time in nearly 10 months and drove in two runs as Milwaukee beat San Diego for their fifth straight victory.

Brandon Sproat (1-2) struck out six and allowed three runs over 5 1/3 innings to pick up his first career victory.

San Diego’s Miguel Andjuar produced a solo shot in the sixth and hit an RBI double off the tip of center fielder Garrett Mitchell’s glove in the eighth to cut the lead to 6-4.

Abner Uribe worked around a one-out walk in the ninth to earn his fourth save in five opportunities.

METS 10, TIGERS 2

NEW YORK (AP) — A.J. Ewing gave the Mets just the offensive jolt they were looking for throughout his impressive major league debut, and Freddy Peralta pitched six effective innings in New York’s victory over Detroit.

Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez doubled in the fourth and scored on Carson Benge’s tiebreaking single, but was removed in the sixth after hitting a foul ball. Late in the game, the Mets announced Alvarez has a right knee injury and will undergo imaging Wednesday.

New York, which entered with the worst record in the majors at 15-25, is already missing three injured regulars: shortstop Francisco Lindor, first baseman Jorge Polanco and center fielder Luis Robert Jr.

CARDINALS 6, ATHLETICS 4

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — JJ Wetherholt hit a two-run homer, José Fermín drove in two with a double and St. Louis beat the Athletics 6-4.

The Cardinals snapped a two-game skid and improved their major league-best road record to 14-7. They have yet to lose three straight road games this season.

Andre Pallante (4-3) struck out four and allowed four hits and three runs in five innings. Four relievers followed, with Riley O’Brien working around a leadoff walk in the ninth for his 12th save.

GIANTS 6, DODGERS 2

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Harrison Bader and Eric Haase homered back-to-back for the tying and go-ahead runs in the fifth inning, and San Francisco beat Los Angeles.

Haase tied the game with a solo shot in the third — his first homer since May 7, 2025. He nearly went deep a third time in the seventh when Andy Pages caught Haase’s long drive at the center field wall. Bader’s two-strike homer was his first since March 30 and tied the game before Haase went deep again for a 3-2 lead.

It was the first time Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto (3-3) gave up three homers in a game. All three came from the eighth and ninth spots in the Giants’ lineup with two outs.

Shohei Ohtani homered for the first time since April 26 for the Dodgers.
