China's digital industry revenue up 12.9 pct in Q1

China's digital industry generated a revenue of 9.5 trillion yuan (about 1.39 trillion U.S. dollars) in the first quarter, up 12.9 percent from the same period last year.

The growth rate is 3.5 percentage points higher than the same period last year, according to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released Thursday.

In the period, the digital industry achieved a total profit of 737.8 billion yuan, up 23.6 percent year on year, with the growth rate accelerating by 16.6 percentage points.

The number of 5G base stations in China reached 4.958 million by the end of March, according to the data.

In the first three months of the year, the value-added industrial output of major companies in the electronic information manufacturing sector expanded 13.6 percent year on year, while the revenue of the software sector increased by 11.7 percent year on year.

U.S. business leaders spoke highly of the atmosphere of China-U.S. talks held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Thursday.

On Thursday morning, Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with visiting U.S. President Donald Trump and met with U.S. entrepreneurs accompanying Trump on his state visit to China from Wednesday to Friday.

"It was marvelous. Thank you so much. It's so great to be back in China," Apple's chief executive Tim Cook told reporters of China Media Group after the meeting.

Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia, described the meeting as "incredible", adding that Xi had been "gracious" and "welcoming".

"The meeting was incredible. President Xi was so gracious, so welcoming, and welcome all of us to be part of China. It was an excellent meeting," said Huang.
