Various cutting-edge battery technologies and products are on display at the ongoing 18th China International Battery Fair in south China's Shenzhen City, seeking to boost battery capacity and performance for new energy vehicles and other energy storage applications.

The fair, running from May 13 to 15, is expected to attract over 3,000 exhibitors and more than 350,000 visits.

It brings together leading companies in the industry including Chinese battery manufacturer Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL), covering the entire industry chain from raw materials, equipment to cells, systems and recycling utilization.

"This is a specialized separator designed for negative electrode-less sodium-ion batteries. Its thickness can be as thin as five micrometers. What does that mean? It is one twentieth the thickness of a human hair. At that level of thinness, it can help extend the driving range for new energy vehicles and increase the capacity for energy storage batteries," said Jiao Lingkuan, vice president of Enjet Global Research Institute.

Also showcased at the fair are full-scenario energy storage solutions, featuring large-capacity battery cells, intelligent energy storage systems, and cutting-edge battery technologies.

"This is our 6.25 MWh liquid-cooled container, primarily used for large-scale power storage," said Liu Liang, deputy general manager of the energy storage industry department at REPT BATTERO Energy, a lithium-ion battery manufacturer.

Among the highlights are battery safety testing equipment and solutions at the exhibition.

"We have launched a megawatt-level flash-charging high-power battery testing system, primarily for use by new energy vehicle and energy storage battery manufacturers," said Jiang Liwen, brand manager of RePower, a Shenzhen-based battery manufacturing company.

Heavy rains prompted several regions across China to activate emergency responses on Sunday, with warnings of possible disasters caused by days of intense rains in some areas.

The meteorological service of Nanning City, capital of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, issued an orange lightning warning on Sunday morning.

It warned that most urban areas of Nanning will be affected by thunderstorm and some parts of the city will see heavy precipitation and strong winds.

The lightning warning was followed by another yellow warning for rainstorm, with most parts of Nanning to see heavy rains of 20 to 40 millimeters.

In some areas, precipitation will exceed 50 millimeters and will also be accompanied by thunder and gusty winds.

The central province of Hubei activated a Level III emergency response for major meteorological disasters on Sunday morning.

Local meteorological service estimated that from Sunday night to Tuesday, the province will see heavy to torrential rains and some regions will experience downpours accompanied by severe convective weather.

Local authorities said the public should stay alert to secondary disasters triggered by persistent heavy rains.

Rains hit north China's Tianjin Municipality on Saturday night.

The rainfall intensified significantly on Sunday morning and the rainy weather is projected to last until Monday.
