China supports Pakistan's fair and balanced mediation role in promoting peace and ending hostilities in the Middle East, said Guo Jiakun, spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beijing on Thursday.
At the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will pay an official visit to China from May 23 to 26.
Guo made the remarks in response to a related media query at a regular press briefing.
"During Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's visit to China, the leaders of the two countries will have in-depth exchanges of views on bilateral relations and issues of mutual concern. Regarding the Iranian issue,we have stated our position multiple times. China supports Pakistan's fair and balanced mediation role in promoting peace and ending hostilities in the Middle East. Guided by the spirit of President Xi Jinping’s four-point proposal, China will work together with the international community, including Pakistan, to contribute to the early restoration of peace and stability in the Middle East," said Guo.
Xi's four-point proposal on promoting peace and stability in the Middle East includes adherence to the principle of peaceful coexistence, adherence to the principle of national sovereignty, adherence to the principle of international rule of law, and coordinating the development and security.
