Chinese stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 2.04 percent to 4,077.28 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.07 percent lower at 15,247.27 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices totaled 3.48 trillion yuan (about 509.39 billion U.S. dollars), up from 2.95 trillion yuan in the previous trading day.
Shares related to civil aviation and banking sectors led the gains, while stocks in the semiconductor and memory chip sectors led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 2.35 percent to close at 3,829.78 points Thursday.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 4.42 percent lower at 2,101.72 points on Thursday.
