The Forum on Building up China's Cultural Strength 2026 concluded on Friday in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province, with experts discussing ways to boost the development of cultural industries through the application of new technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI).
Hosted by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, the two-day event comprised a main forum and 11 sub-forums.
At the Forum on Artificial Intelligence and Media Transformation, participants focused on how to leverage the revolutionary power of AI as the systemic reform of mainstream media deepens, calling on media organizations to actively embrace new AI technologies to step up digital transformation, better play their roles as mainstream media, promote the healthy development of the AI sector, and improve AI governance.
At the Forum on AI-Driven Innovation of Cultural Industries, participants discussed how AI is reshaping cultural productivity, exploring new pathways for cultural production, circulation, and consumption in the age of AI.
They noted that the key to AI-driven development of the cultural sector lies in meeting the diverse cultural needs of the people through high-quality supply, and stressed the importance of high-quality data, which is the most valuable asset for transforming and upgrading cultural industries.
Meanwhile, the Forum on Cultural Heritage Preservation and Inheritance brought together experts and scholars around the country to share their insights on building a holistic protection framework for cultural heritage.
Agreeing that cultural heritage should be revitalized as a dynamic link connecting the past and the future, they discussed boundaries and the integration between cultural heritage studies and cultural relic conservation and archaeology, offering forward-looking ideas on how to develop a disciplinary system with Chinese characteristics.
